The Van Ewijck Foundation was established in Cape Town and has been promoting cultural ties between the Netherlands and South Africa since the early 1980s.

The aim of the Van Ewijck Foundation is to provide financial aid to persons and institutions that strive to promote cultural relations in the widest sense between the Netherlands and South Africa.

Achievement Award 2016

The 2016 achievement prize of R75 000 has been awarded to Daniel Hugo for his numerous translations from Dutch into Afrikaans. Following the announcement, Hugo commented that it remained a matter of wonder and joy that an organisation that promotes the culture of the Dutch language in South Africa exists on home soil. He therefore thanked the Van Ewijck Foundation for helping to avoid the severance of the navel cord between Afrikaans and Dutch.
